Klein Attitude (born 1994) with Mission Control 1
Klein Mantra Pro (1998)

Klein was an American bicycle manufacturer based in Chehalis ( WA ), which became known for technical and design innovations.

history

Company founder Gary Klein (* 1959) studied at MIT . In the mid-1970s he started a university project and started manufacturing aluminum racing bike frames with two friends . In 1985 he built the first "KLEIN Mountainbike" - the Mountainklein . Another product was the 1990s Attitude , and 1991 the boron-reinforced Adroit . The trademarks of the small bikes were frame tubes with an above-average diameter, so-called oversized tubes. This resulted in light, stiff and therefore very fast mountain bikes with details that were new, especially in the frame construction.

In 1996, Klein sold his company to Trek . In the following years almost all essential and innovative construction details were deleted for economic reasons. From this time onwards available models like “Pulse” or “Stage” were cheaper. Bikes under the name "Klein" were sold until around 2009.

In 2002, Klein equipped the Gerolsteiner team in road cycling, which won the individual time trial Grand Prix des Nations that year with Uwe Peschel .
