Little Gloriette

The Kleine Gloriette is a gloriette in the garden of Schönbrunn Palace in Vienna .

architecture

The Kleine Gloriette is located in the middle of the wooded mountainside and near today's Maria-Theresien-Tor. The building was probably built around 1775 by Isidor Canevale as a viewing pavilion. It is tower-like and has two floors with balconies. The floor plan consists of a regular octagon with an attached staircase. The roof forms a relatively flat copper dome. The exterior color of this Gloriette is based on the castle: with the facade in Schönbrunn yellow and the shutters in Kaiser green .

The interior is decorated with a trompe l'œil architectural painting in the Rococo style, which opens up on the upper floor through a parapet into a painted sky. The building is usually closed, but is occasionally open to the public on occasions such as Monument Day .
