Small cryptogam flora

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The small cryptogam flora is an important scientific work on the cryptogams of Europe . The series was founded by the botanist Helmut Gams . Other authors include Meinhard Moser and Walter Jülich .

Publication history

Helmut Gams founded the series in 1940 with the publication of the first volume on moss and fern plants . After two further editions of this volume in 1948 and 1950, Meinhard Moser published the second part in 1953, which deals with leaf and belly fungi . Two years later, in 1955, the second edition followed, in which the Dickröhrlingsverwandte (Röhrlinge) were included. In 1957, the moss and fern plants were reintegrated as the fourth volume in the series. 1963 came with the Ascomycetes ( sac fungi ) added another band part of the fungi.

In 1967 the third part, in which the lichens are described, was supplemented by Helmut Gams. In the same year the third edition appeared on boletus and leaf mushrooms; the belly mushrooms were outsourced. In 1969 Helmut Gams published part a of the macroscopic algae (freshwater and air algae), followed in 1974 by part b (marine algae), also by Gams. In 1984 Walter Jülich published the volume on non-leaf mushrooms, gelatinous mushrooms and belly mushrooms.

The series currently comprises seven volumes on four taxonomic groups: algae (2 volumes), mushrooms (3 volumes), lichens (1 volume) as well as mosses and ferns (archegonia; 1 volume). The volumes were printed by Gustav Fischer Verlag . From 1940 to 1953 it was published exclusively in Jena and from 1955 mainly in Stuttgart and partly in Jena, including all volumes on newly added groups.

In 2005 Egon Horak published an identification key for boletus and agaric mushrooms in Europe at Elsevier based on the 5th edition of the boletus and agaric mushrooms by Meinhard Moser .
