Egon Horak

Egon Horak (* 1937 in Innsbruck ) is an Austrian professor of biology .

biography

Egon Horak studied biology and geology at the University of Innsbruck and did his doctorate with Meinhard Moser . From 1985 to 2002 he was professor of botany ( systematics and ecology of fungi ) at the ETH Zurich . Since his retirement he has been working as a consultant at the Herbarium Zurich .

Egon Horak is a proven expert in the field of mycology , in particular the thick boletus and mushroom relatives . He is a founding member of the International Symposia of Arctic-Alpine Mycology (ISAM). His botanical-mycological author's abbreviation is " E. Horak ".

Several types of mushrooms such as the milkling Lactarius horakii from Indonesia were named after him.
