Little Cyclades
The Small Cyclades ( Greek Μικρές Κυκλάδες Mikres Kyklades ( f. Pl. ) Also Small East Cyclades ) is a group of small islands within the Cyclades archipelago . The islands are to the east and south of the largest Cycladic island, Naxos . Of the almost 30 islands and rocky reefs, only the four islands Donousa , Pano Koufonisi , Iraklia and Schinoussa with a total of 600 inhabitants are permanently inhabited. With the exception of the islands of Kato Andikeri and Andikeros, all islands have belonged to the municipality of Naxos and Lesser Cyclades since 2011 , where they form four municipal districts named after the inhabited islands.
The islands are very arid and therefore also poor in vegetation. The inhabitants live primarily from fishing, sparse agriculture (mainly cattle breeding) and tourism, which is not yet very pronounced.
The islands are now regularly called by ferries (1–2 times a week by a large ferry from Athens and almost daily by the Express Skopelitis ship, which sails the Amorgos - Small Cyclades - Naxos route and back). However, this connection can also fail in very adverse weather conditions.
