The house on Kleine Sandstrasse 8 ( Latvian Mazā Smilšu iela 8 ) is a listed building in the Latvian capital Riga .

It is located in Riga's old town on the north side of the Little Sand Street ( Mazā Smilšu iela ) in a corner at the intersection with Königstraße ( Ķēniņu iela ).
Design and history
The building was built in the 18th century as a residential building, other information says the year 1870. It later served as the corporation house of the Fraternitas Arctica fraternity founded in 1880 . In 1940 the Riga Ballet School was founded in the house. During the time of the Soviet occupation of Latvia, the building housed a theater, opera and ballet studio. Well-known artists such as Mikhail Baryschnikow , Alexander Godunow and Maris Liepa worked here.
On May 15, 1990 the house was the place of the reconstitution of the Fraternitas Arctica. Since December 1, 2011 it has been registered in the Latvian Register of Monuments under the number 8807 .
