The Small Synagogue in Płock (German Plock ), a Polish city in the Masovian Voivodeship , was built from 1820 to 1822. The derelict synagogue has been a protected cultural monument since 1962 .

history

Around 10,000 Jewish citizens once lived in Płock and the surrounding area, the majority of whom were murdered by the German occupiers during the Holocaust . The interior of the Small Synagogue was destroyed during this time.

The classicism- style synagogue was used by a knitwear cooperative after 1945 and was empty after 1992. In 2006, a newly founded synagogue association took over the dilapidated building from the city in order to rebuild it and use it as a museum and for events.

In March 2013 the Jewish Museum was opened in the synagogue building.
