Raphael Zehnder
Raphael Zehnder (born May 13, 1963 in Baden , Switzerland ) is a Swiss journalist and detective writer .
Life
Raphael Zehnder worked as a record and CD seller, concert organizer, night watchman and music journalist before studying French and Latin literature and linguistics at the University of Zurich. In 2004 he received his doctorate there with a thesis on the Latin influence on the “Cent Nouvelles nouvelles”, the first collection of novels in French, which was created around 1460 at the Burgundian court.
After 15 years in print journalism, he switched to public service broadcasting in 2002, where he works as an editor for social issues. He lived in Zurich for 26 years and moved to Basel in 2008.
In 2006 he began working on detective novels about Müller Benedikt, an investigator with the (fictional) Zurich police, who suffers from a gun trauma. Since 2013, Zehnder and Daniel Rohr from the Rigiblick Theater in Zurich have organized the “Zürcher Kriminalnacht” there every spring.
The time of November 8, 2012 about the first Müller novel:
«Linguistically, this is certainly the most striking book of the Swiss autumn season. Here the story (honorable, brooding police officer investigating a murder case in the Zurich music scene) is almost washed down by language. But that doesn't matter. The reader is fascinated by this first-person narrator who is constantly chatting to himself and who shoots himself from his own pedestal. He cannot listen to his characters because he is so busy with himself, they get up and away, slip away from their creator. Written rock'n'roll that takes the laws of the genre ad absurdum. A really funny book, which is rare in this country. "
With Müller und die Schweinerei (2013) and Müller and the smile of the dog (2014) he was nominated for the Zurich crime prize, with Müller and the man with mustache (2015) he won it.
