Let the children come to me is a German television film by Sigi Rothemund from 2010 based on the novel of the same name by Donna Leon . It is the 16th film in the Donna Leon film series .

action

The pediatrician Gustavo Pedrolli is arrested by the Carabinieri by the Capitano Marvilli, because he is suspected of having killed a young Albanian woman. Commissario Brunetti is convinced of the pediatrician's innocence and moves Capitano Marvilli to joint investigations. In fact, the doctor has a motive: his wife Bianca, the daughter of the industrialist Marcolini, is sterile, but the two wanted a child, which is why they got involved in an illegal adoption. The baby's young mother was told after delivery that her son had died; she was also illegally in the country and could not defend herself. Signorina Elettra and Brunetti pretend to be married to investigate the agency that kidnaps the children of illegal immigrants and places them for large sums of money with couples willing to adopt.

Somebody lets the Albanian know that her child is still alive and that the Pedrollis have adopted it. Also, she suddenly has a lot of money. As a result, her cousin, with whom the young woman is staying, is targeted by the investigators. When she told him her story and he found out about the money, he tried to steal it. Her death was an accident that happened when he hit her too hard in an argument. The tip and the money came from Pedrolli's father-in-law Marcolini, who would not tolerate a “bastard” in the family.

criticism

Rainer Tittelbach from tittelbach.tv judged: “It is hardly possible to retell the story of this Donna Leon film in an interesting way without revealing too much or getting lost in detail. The same problem is reflected in the current episode, which is dramaturgically anything but a masterpiece. ”“ The film about the wickedness of mankind ripples along like the gondolas glide through the Grand Canal - none of this bothers and is pretty to look at. Sunnyboy Gregor Törzs also fits in well. On the other hand, Brunetti & Co get lost in the eloquent little bits of investigative work. Every walk, wherever, becomes a sun-flooded state action and the comic attacks exude a bitter, ancient lavender scent. "

Benjamin Zeeb wrote in the Süddeutsche Zeitung : “Until the nasty child kidnapper can finally be caught, the German ensemble will be performing bits and pieces of its tourist Italian, ordering croissants instead of cornetti in the cafe and drinking as many espressos as a normal mortal would take Jerks from the Rialto Bridge. But after eight years with Donna Leon in the first one is used to that. "

Julian Miller atquotemeter.de remarked: “Donna Leon's trivial kitsch novels are mainly characterized by their consistently shallow stories and flat characters. The film adaptations of her books follow a similar path; so is the latest part of the series, 'Let the children come to me'. Indeed, in the script by Stefan Holtz and Florian Iwersen, an attempt is made to create a meaningful arc of suspense, but the film constantly fails on this task. The murder case itself is not particularly spectacular, and the confused and mostly completely implausible entanglements that the authors have sucked out of their hands here are not able to build up an interest in the plot and the characters, let alone maintain them in the long term. "

The critics of the TV magazine TV Spielfilm gave the best possible rating (thumbs up) and said: “Sure, Brunetti is not Wallander! But in contrast to the Degeto investigators Laurenti and LaBréa, his cases are always played more relevant and sovereign. ”As a conclusion, they drew:“ Brunetti is the No. 1 of the Italo TV cops ”.
