Endstation Venice is a German television film by Sigi Rothemund from 2006 based on the novel of the same name by Donna Leon . It is the 11th film contribution in the Donna Leon film series .

action

The body of a stabbed American soldier who was stationed at the US base in Vicenza and was employed as a health inspector swims in the canals of Venice . Commissario Brunetti immediately went to Vicenza and tried to find out whether his death could have anything to do with his position. He is given permission to look around the dead man's apartment and finds a kilogram of narcotics there, presented very conspicuously. Since Brunetti suspects this is a diversionary maneuver, he unceremoniously pours the drug into the toilet.

While the influential Signor Viscardis is in the casino, his villa is broken into and valuable paintings are stolen. Due to Signore Viscardis' political position, Vice-Questore Patta instructs Brunetti to take care of this case. The inspector is reluctant to postpone his current murder case, but he has to submit to his superior. The well-known criminal Ruffolo is offered to them as a suspect, but he has gone into hiding.

Captain Peters from the US base in Vicenza tries to provide Brunetti with information about incidents on which the murdered health inspector had just been working. Shortly thereafter, the murderer also ambushes her and kills her with an overdose of drugs to disguise the murder as an accident. The files that Captain Peters sent Brunetti before her death deal with unexplained rashes in children and adolescents that have recently appeared in Vicenza. Brunetti investigates and uncovered a toxic waste scandal. Dozens of US Army poison barrels were illegally buried near a lake. For the inspector, this gives rise to the motive for the crime.

In the case of picture theft, there is a reference to the black market. It turns out that the stolen paintings are forgeries. Ruffolo excitedly contacts Commissario Brunetti, but when he wants to meet him, he was murdered. While trying to steal Viscardis' pictures in Ruffolo's apartment, the perpetrator can be caught, but is killed while trying to escape. Brunetti receives information from a high-level body that Viscardis is concerned with more than a few fake pictures. The illegal toxic waste dump was created with his approval, and his influence is immeasurable. Brunetti should no longer concern himself with him because this could have fatal consequences for everyone. While Brunetti visits Viscardis to find out why he had Ruffolo killed, but does not receive a satisfactory answer, a shot is fired and Viscardis sinks to the ground, dead. Signora Ruffolo hands Brunetti her rifle and explains that her son was all she had left.

criticism

Tilmann P. Gangloff from tittelbach.tv judged: “A Brunetti crime thriller that represents a turning point in the ARD series: 'Endstation Venice' is the first film that was made under Nico Hofmann's supervision. With the principle of 'more femininity' and softer features in the staging, the producer established his ABC scheme: A stands for well-dosed action, B for high proportion of relationships and C for comedy. As always, there is some crime and tourist sightseeing in the game ... "

For the lexicon of international film , Donna Leon - Venice terminus was "another Venice (TV) crime thriller based on a novel by Donna Leon, which sets the scene in a picturesque way."

Manuel Weis atquotemeter.de remarked: This episode "with Commissario Brunetti disappointed all along the line." Absolute nil. The film babbles away - there is far too much talk. If at least the dialogues were lively and crisp, you could still endure this - but even the conversations bore you and should a brisk phrase conjure up a grin on the viewer's face, this scene receives the rating 'rarity'. "Only those great landscape shots meet “all criteria”.
