The small dwarf wood mouse ( Hylomyscus parvus ) is a rodent in the long-tailed mouse family .

With a head-trunk length of 56 to 77 mm, a tail length of 87 to 120 mm and a weight of 10 to 16 g, it is the smallest species of the genus African wood mice . The hairs on the top are gray at the base and brown at the top, which gives the fur a chocolate brown to dark brown color. On the sides of the body there is a smooth transition to the light brown to whitish fur on the underside. The little dwarf wood mouse has large round ears that are bare or covered with short hair. The thumbs and big toes are the shortest on the hands and feet. The thumb also lacks the claw while the other fingers have narrow claws. The long tail is sparsely covered with light hair.

The species lives in Cameroon , in the north of Gabun , in the north of the Republic of the Congo and in the west of the Central African Republic . In addition, there is a small population in the north of the Democratic Republic of the Congo . The habitat is mainly moist forests in the lowlands, mostly near rivers. The little dwarf wood mouse visits adjacent fields.

The individuals climb mainly in trees or in the undergrowth. Occasionally they are on the floor. Remains of fruits and insects were found in the stomach of this rodent. Captive specimens also ate grains. Females give birth to 2 or 3 cubs per litter, which are clearly darker in color than adults.

The species is listed as Least Concern by the IUCN because it is relatively common.
