Little Red Tractor is a British puppet series using stop-motion technology, produced by the Little Entertainment Group and broadcast in Germany on KiKA . In the UK, the series can be seen on the BBC's CBeebies toddler program .

action

The series takes place in the vicinity of the fictional, rural village of Plätscherbach. She tells of the experiences of a small red tractor of older year of construction and its driver, the farmer Jan. Together they help their neighbors out of large and small emergencies. These often arise from the ill-considered actions of their neighbor Jasper Junker and his tendency towards highly technical solutions that fail at the crucial moment.

Theme song

The theme song is slightly different to completely different for each episode. It is the same in Germany. On the English translations on German DVDs only the German title song was translated, but in wrong English.

Note: There is no evidence at this point that this is really the case. It is also now difficult to find out whether it was like that when it was broadcast on TV - back in 2004. The series is no longer broadcast. But with home media at least, the English title song is identical to the one on the German DVD and - as on the German DVD - not different in every episode.

German lyrics

[do-do] Let's go!

Little red tractor

is known everywhere

With Jan at the steering wheel

he moves across the country

He's not a giant

but it's brave

Little red tractor,

[do-do] let's go!

Schleppi, Flitzer and the big blue one

like to be on the road with him

Little red tractor,

[do-do] let's go!

English-language lyrics (German DVD / British home media)

[toot-toot] Let's go!

Little red tractor,

he's king of the fields

Gettin 'his jobs done,

with Stan at the wheel

He's not the biggest,

but he's a hero

Little red tractor,

[toot-toot] let's go

With Sparky & Lipper,

a big blue too

And lots more friends in tow

Little red tractor,

[toot-toot] let's go

characters

Jan

Jan is a farmer like his parents and grandparents. He runs the modest Gösselhof, which he manages with the title character, the little red tractor. Jan is fond of children and always helpful. In the German version it is spoken by Eberhard Haar . He made his first appearance in The Big Bang .

Little red tractor

The little red tractor helps Jan run the Gösselhof. He clearly has human traits. Even if he does not express himself verbally, he can still signal joy and approval by honking and hopping on his front axle. The real model for the little red tractor is a Massey-Harris pony from the 1950s. He made his first appearance in The Big Bang .

Jasper Junker

Jasper Junker is only called "Mr. Junker" by all the villagers. He is from the city and at times feels superior to the rural people. He lives on the manorial estate, which he manages with modern technical aids such as the combine harvester and the big blue tractor. He has a weakness for all kinds of technical toys and materialistic and selfish qualities that regularly get him into trouble. The German speaker is Gustav-Adolph Artz . He made his first appearance in The Big Bang .

Big blue tractor

The farm's tractor. Like the little red tractor, it can express satisfaction or displeasure with its multi-tone horn, but has no anthropomorphic features. He made his first appearance in The Big Bang .

Stumpi

Stumpi is miller of a windmill that he runs with his wife Elsie. He also lives in it. Stumpi is plump, older (65–70) and white-haired. He is prone to idleness to the displeasure of his wife. He is good-natured and helps his neighbors where he can. As a vehicle to serve him with his quad, he racer calls, which he, however, very poorly controlled and thus constantly throws off him, especially when braking. Peter Kirchberger lends him his German voice . He made his first appearance in The Big Bang .

Walter

Walter runs a car repair shop with a gas station and a small shop with his daughter Nicola. He has a great passion for rock music and enjoys singing at work, which he sometimes does a little clumsily. Then his daughter, who is generally the more skilled craftsman, has to give him a hand. In his free time he tries to get the old-timer Rosti going again. Nevertheless, Rosti regularly breaks down and gets Walter in trouble. It is spoken by Robert Missler , who also sings the theme song. He made his first appearance in The Big Bang .

Nicola

Walter's daughter runs the workshop and gas station together with her father. She is a skilled and helpful mechanic. The Schleppi tow truck is available for use outside the workshop . It is spoken by Stephanie Damare . She made her first appearance in The Big Bang .

Emma and Max Tormann

Emma and Max are the neighborhood children of the Gösselhof, which is why they like to visit Jan and take him out on trips in the little red tractor. They are voiced by Florentine Draeger and Mohammed Ponten . Both have their first appearance in The Big Bang .

Thomas

The 10-year-old nephew of Mr. Junker only moves to the country in the course of the series and has to get used to country life. He becomes the playmate of the younger neighbors' children (6 and 8 years old) Emma and Max. He is the only one who addresses Mr Junker by his first name as Uncle Jasper . He is voiced by Tim Kreuer . He made his first appearance in Der Stadtjunge .
