Small load carriers

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

A small load carriers (KLT) , even small-load carriers , Euro box , Euro standard container or Euronormbox , is a from the VDA standard transport and storage crate. According to the VDA standard, the material of the boxes is exclusively the plastic polypropylene in fixed colors. In this way, at the end of their life, boxes from different manufacturers and customers can be recycled together , where they serve as raw material for new small load carriers.

Small load carriers are available in different sizes of the base area. Similar to paper formats , the area doubles from step to step, but the aspect ratio changes from 3: 2 to 4: 3 to 6: 4. The VDA standard provides for three size levels, with the base area being the nominal dimensions 300 mm × 200 mm, 400 mm × 300 mm and 600 mm × 400 mm. The VDA specifies the height of the boxes as 147 mm, 213 mm and 280 mm, with a height of only 147 mm for the smallest base area. The boxes can be stacked free-standing in several layers. In addition, the dimensions have been selected so that four boxes measuring 600 mm × 400 mm just cover a euro pallet. By choosing the base and a specially designed floor, different sizes can be combined.

The basic principle of stackable plastic boxes, including the choice of base areas, has also been adopted in branches of industry outside of the automotive industry.

KLT system of the VDA

The KLT system was developed by the Center of Competence Packaging of the German Association of the Automotive Industry (VDA) to optimize the logistics chain in the automotive industry and supplier industry. The system is modularly tailored to the footprints 1200 × 800 mm ( Euro pallet ) and 1200 × 1000 mm (ISO). Dimensions and properties may differ if there is no VDA certification. VDA 4504 defines electrostatically dissipative boxes.

VDA 4500 defines three types of small load carriers and the corresponding lids:

R-KLT
rigid, composite floor
RL-KLT
rigid, smooth floor
F-KLT
foldable, composite floor

These are specified for a filling weight of 20 kg.

C-KLT
double-walled

The double-walled special shape for 50 kg.

The nominal dimensions (length × width × height in millimeters) for types R-KLT and RL-KLT are:

number Nominal dimensions (mm) Actual mass
R-KLT 6429 / RL-KLT 6280 600 × 400 × 280 594 × 396 × 280
R-KLT 6415 / RL-KLT 6147 600 × 400 × 147 594 × 396 × 147
R-KLT 4329 / RL-KLT 4280 400 × 300 × 280 396 × 297 × 280
R-KLT 4315 / RL-KLT 4147 400 × 300 × 147 396 × 297 × 147
R-KLT 3215 / RL-KLT 3147 300 × 200 × 147 297 × 198 × 147
D65 600 × 400 (cover)
D45 400 × 300 (cover)
D35 300 × 200 (cover)

The foldable box bears the number 6410 and has the nominal dimensions 600 × 400 × 280 mm or folded… × 94.5 mm and internal dimensions 535 × 357 × 257 mm.

The colors of the containers are also specified.

Labelling

The small load carriers are identified by uniform barcode-compatible goods tags. The form and content of these goods tags are documented in VDA regulation VDA 4902. Code39 is used as the barcode . Depending on the size of the KLT, either DIN-A5 goods tags or halved DIN-A5 goods tags (also referred to as "half-height goods tags") are used.

Other euro containers

Stacked euro containers

Based on the VDA recommendations, stackable plastic containers with the basic dimensions 800 × 600 mm, 800 × 400 mm, 600 × 400 mm, 400 × 300 mm and 300 × 200 mm are common.

Euro meat crate and baker's crate

For the meat industry, red and yellow boxes with the numbers E1 to E6 have been defined in a similar way by the European Trade Institute (EHI) . Red E1 and E2 are particularly common, each with a base area of 600 × 400 mm and a usable height of 110 mm or 185 mm.

For baked goods such as rolls , latticed bakery boxes are common, these also have a base area of 600 × 400 mm with usable heights of 120 to 410 mm.
