Kleomenes (commentator)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Kleomenes was a philosopher. He wrote a commentary on Hesiod's works. He is possibly identical to the Cynical philosopher Cleomenes .

Clement of Alexandria narrates that Cleomenes traced the expression “citizenship and disaster close by” back to Homer : “Weak is the security that guarantees for the weak” ( Odyssey , 8, 351). Aristotle applied the expression to Chilon of Sparta and Didymos Chalkenteros return to Thales .
