The first German climate list was founded in the city of Erlangen on the occasion of the local elections in Bavaria in 2020 , another list followed in Düsseldorf . On the occasion of the state elections in Rhineland-Palatinate in 2021, a climate list was also formed there.

The Erlangen Climate List was founded in July 2019 by climate activists and scientists in Erlangen. The declared aim of the climate list is the implementation of a consistent climate policy at the municipal level. The climate list is seen as municipal competition to Bündnis 90 / Die Grünen . In the local elections on March 15, 2020, the climate list in Erlangen received 84,500 votes and thus gained 3.9% of the votes or two seats in the Erlangen city council.

The Düsseldorf climate list has nominated the 23-year-old student and climate activist Celine Coldewe as candidate for mayor for Düsseldorf. This makes her the youngest candidate for mayor, who will stand for election on September 13, 2020 in Düsseldorf.

Achieving CO 2 neutrality and adhering to the Paris climate targets were formulated as the key points of the Erlangen climate list program . Other points in the program are the areas of mobility, in which the climate list focuses on pedestrian-friendliness and public transport . In addition, the climate list wants to achieve an expansion of renewable energies to 200  MW through the municipal utilities. Overall, the program exclusively covers the topic of climate protection. The climate list does not formulate goals apart from climate protection in its program.
