Klimt's Magic Garden

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Klimt's Magic Garden was an exhibition experiment in the Museum of Applied Arts Vienna . Based on Gustav Klimt's work drawings for the mosaic frieze in the dining room of the Palais Stoclet , the artist Fredrick Baker created a virtual reality .

construction

Using HTC Virtual Reality glasses, the visitor can immerse himself in a 3D world. The VR world is made up exclusively of elements that are depicted in the frieze. None of the elements were changed. In the VR world one encounters the three main characters of the original frieze - "expectation", "fulfillment" and "knight". The garden is set up as a labyrinth with paths, hills, mountains, lakes and islands. The landscape through which the visitor moves is inspired by the Salzkammergut, where Klimt stayed again and again. The VR world is based on the idea of a baroque garden such as in Schönbrunn Palace or the Mirabell Gardens .

The soundtrack specially designed for the exhibition comes from the sound designer and composer George Taylor. The project was developed in collaboration with the 3-D graphic artist Markus Cermak, the dramaturge Sandra Fasolt and the video post production company Christian Leiss Postproduction GmbH.
