Klondike Fields is a mountainous region near the city of Dawson in the Yukon in northwestern Canada . The region lies in the border zone between Alaska and Yukon in Canada on the Klondike River , a small river that flows into the Yukon River from the northeast in Dawson . Gold was found on the Klondike Fields in 1897 . This started the largest gold rush in American history. As a reminder, there is the Klondike Gold Rush National Historical Park in Seattle and Skagway .
