Franquevaux Monastery ( Francae valles ) is a Cistercian abbey founded in 1143 in the municipality of Beauvoisin near Saint Gilles du Gard in what is now the Gard department in the Occitania region of France. It is near the Étang de Scamandre .
history
The mother monastery was the Morimond Primary Abbey . The inhabitants of the monastery, together with those of the Abbeys of Psalmody and Saint-Gilles , were busy draining the great coastal swamps. However, after the great plague in 1348, many of the newly populated areas were abandoned again. The monastery, which operated the salt production, was besieged and plundered several times, for example in 1562, 1622 and 1703 by the camisards . It was rebuilt in 1705. After the revolution, the abbey was absorbed in the hamlet of the same name.
Buildings and plant
A large stone wall that belonged to the church from 1209 has been preserved.
