Lintula Monastery
The monastery Lintula is the only Orthodox convent in Finland. It is located in the Heinävesi municipality in south-east Finland.
history
It was founded in 1895 in Kivennappa on the Karelian Isthmus , which was then part of Finland and now part of Russia. During the winter war of 1939, the nuns fled the Russian armed forces to the war-spared area of Finland. In 1946 the convent was able to establish a new monastery in Heinävesi, very close to the male monastery Uusi Valamo . In 1973 the new church was consecrated, which is consecrated to the Holy Trinity, just like on the old site.
economy
The monastery operates a candle factory. Around 25,000 pilgrims and tourists each year also contribute to the income. The originally associated farm, however, was given up.
