The former Mariahilf monastery in Nörvenich , Düren district, is now an old people's home .

Franziska Barrenstein from Nörvenich bequeathed her house at Marktplatz 2 (previously her father's pharmacy) along with stables, courtyard, garden and all associated lands to the Düren district or the community to set up an old people's , disabled and orphanage that was to be managed by Catholic nuns. After her death on March 7, 1933, the civil parish inherited the inheritance and entered into the cooperative of the Sisters of Mercy of St. Karl Borromeo signed a management contract in Trier . The monastery was inaugurated on November 19, 1933.

In July 1933 there were already two sisters of the Borromean Sisters in Nörvenich. The house has been rebuilt and renovated. During the year more women religious came to the new monastery . In the first few days, the old people's home was occupied by around 20 old, sick people in need of care. In the 1930s, additional parts of the building were added. In 1937 a maternity and delivery room was added.

In October 1944 the old and sick people were evacuated with the nuns to Torgau , and later to Halle (Saale) . In June / July 1945 everyone came back to the monastery.

The increasing lack of space in the nursing home led to considerations to build a new house. Since Katharina Breuer from Nörvenich († October 1, 1952) had bequeathed her property at Zülpicher Strasse 22 to the order, it was consecrated on March 25, 1957 by Dean Julius Völl. In memory of the founder, the house was called Katharinenheim.

Due to a lack of staff, the Borromean women were forced to quit their activities in Nörvenich. The last sisters left the monastery on December 31, 1980. After that, a couple who ran the home took over the house.

In 1996/1997 more places were necessary in an old people's home, so that the Catholic parish decided to build a new building on Rathausstrasse. The previous monastery in Zülpicher Straße was converted into apartments. The old monastery Marktplatz 4 is now privately owned and is also used as a residential building.
