The monastery of Nizors or La Bénissons-Dieu (Benedictio Dei; not to be confused with the monastery of La Bénisson-Dieu ) is a former Cistercian monk abbey in the commune of Boulogne-sur-Gesse in the Haute-Garonne department , Occitania region , in France . It is located around 24 km north of Saint-Gaudens on the banks of the Gesse .

history

The monastery was founded in 1180 and settled by a founding convent from the nearby Bonnefont monastery . occupied. This made it a subsidiary of Morimond Primary Abbey . The monastery developed rapidly and received from King Philip III. of France in 1283 joint rule (paréage) over the bastide of Boulogne-sur-Gesse . After the monastery fell in Coming , it went into decline. The buildings were renovated in the second half of the 18th century. Montesquieu , whose brother was Commendatar Abbot, spent a month in the abbey. During the French Revolution , the monastery was dissolved, then looted and burned down.

Buildings and plant

What has been preserved is a two-story brick building that contains the earlier, albeit divided, chapter house with four pilaster strips on the long side, which are connected by belt arches. On the ground floor of the interior there are still marble columns with leaf capitals. The rest of the complex has fallen into shapeless ruins. The church of Ciadoux received, among other things, an entombment from the monastery.
