Nunraw Monastery

Monastery Nunraw (lat. Abbatia Beatae Mariae de Nunraw ) is a Scottish Trappist - abbey at Garvald (East Lothian) , south of Haddington, Diocese of Saint Andrews and Edinburgh .

history

The Irish monastery of Roscrea founded the monastery of Sancta Maria in 1946 as the first Scottish Cistercian monastery since the Reformation ( raised to an abbey in 1947 ). The monastery began in the Nunraw Old Abbey mansion before all new buildings were built in 1962.
