Oberroning Monastery
The Oberroning Monastery of the Order of the Visitation of Mary is a Salesian monastery in Oberroning (town of Rottenburg an der Laaber ) in Bavaria .
history
The Oberroning monastery was founded in 1838 as a worship monastery by the local clergyman Johann Baptist Gahr. In 1848 a girls' elementary school and boarding school opened. In 1863 the sisters joined the Order of the Visitation of Mary . The monastery building with school and boarding school was later generously expanded. In 1895 a teacher training institute was opened , and in 1911 a secondary school for girls was opened. In 1943 the monastery was transformed into a hospital with the help of the sisters. In 1946 the school reopened. The monastery has been running a 6-level secondary school since 2002 .
Monument protection
The monastery is a listed building (file no. D-2-74-176-45). The building description of the Bavarian State Office for Monument Preservation reads:
"Um. Salesian convent with school
extensive building complex with four-storey pitched roof buildings around two inner courtyards and as a longitudinal wing to the east, built 1839–45, expanded 1862–64, expanded to include a boarding house in 1862–64, heightened in 1893, further expansion with formative reconstruction in Art Nouveau style in 1907;
Enclosure, plastered wall. "
