Oberroning is a district of the town of Rottenburg an der Laaber in the Lower Bavarian district of Landshut . Until 1978 it formed an independent municipality.

location

Oberroning is located in the Hallertau about five kilometers northeast of Rottenburg an der Laaber.

history

Roning was first mentioned in a document in 760, when an Adalunc donated properties to the St. Emmeram monastery in Regensburg . This makes Roning one of the earliest mentioned places in the district. In 1045 the place, including a castle, belonged to the Counts of Roning. Around 1160 their goods passed to the Counts of Moosburg.

After the counts died out around 1180, the County of Roning fell to the Wittelsbach family . In the war between Duke Ludwig the Kelheimer and Bishop Konrad von Regensburg , the castle was destroyed in 1203 and no longer rebuilt. The castle, today's Burgstall Oberroning , stood on the elevation immediately northeast of the village on the Venetsberg. In 1378 the place lost its market rights to Rottenburg.

The municipality of Oberroning was founded by the Bavarian municipal edict in 1818. In addition to Oberroning, the community included Frechelsdorf, Gebersdorf, Muckendorf, Niederroning, Plunderdorf and Weiher.

The Oberroning Monastery was founded in 1838 as a worship monastery by the local chaplain at the time, Johann Baptist Gahr. In 1863 the sisters joined the Order of the Visitation of Mary . The monastery building with school and boarding school was later generously expanded.

As a former marketplace, Oberroning received “the coat of arms of the Counts of Raning” from King Ludwig II on September 18, 1884, although otherwise only cities and markets were considered to have coats of arms. The municipal coat of arms was that of the Counts of Moosburg, who acquired the goods of the old Roninger around 1160.

On May 1, 1978, the municipality of Oberroning, which belonged to the district of Rottenburg an der Laaber , was incorporated into the city of Rottenburg as part of the regional reform in Bavaria .
