Phare Monastery
Monastery Phare (Tobetsu) (lat. Abbatia Beatae Mariae de Pharo ) is a Japanese Trappist - abbey in Hokuto , Hokkaido , Roman Catholic Diocese of Sapporo .
history
French monks of the Chinese Consolation Monastery founded a daughter monastery on Tsugaru Street in Mitsuishi, Hokuto, near today's Oshima-Tobetsu train station , in 1896 , which they called the Monastery of Our Lady of the Lighthouse (French: Notre Dame du Phare , English: Our Lady of the Lighthouse ). It was placed under the care of Bricquebec Monastery , whose abbot Vital Lehodey took care of the Japanese monasteries.
