The Abbey Quincy (Notre-Dame de Quincy, lat . Quinciacum ) is a former Cistercian abbey in the French commune of Tanlay in Yonne region of Burgundy . The monastery is located around thirteen kilometers east of Tonnerre and four kilometers from Tanlay in a side valley north of the Armançon River .
history
The monastery was founded in Quincerot in 1133 as the sixth daughter of the Pontigny Primary Abbey , but was relocated to the Ru de Melisey stream in the Val de Quenouil between 1135 and 1138. The monastery had 14 granaries and town houses as well as several mills. It suffered damage in the Hundred Years War , but recovered at the end of the Middle Ages. The wars of religion in the 16th century brought its plunder, for which the Commendatar Abbot Cardinal Odet de Châtillon, who had sided with the Protestants, is said to have been responsible. During the French Revolution , the monastery was closed in 1790, then sold and used as a quarry. It has been used as an agricultural property since 1822.
Buildings and plant
The abbot's logis and monastery building (Konversentrakt and hotel business) from the 12th, 13th and 15th centuries, including four cross-rib vaulted double bays of the monk's hall built around 1210 and extensive cellars have been preserved from the monastery. A stair tower from the late 15th century has been preserved in the southeast corner. The church has gone. Their choir had a wreath of seven chapels. The remains of the sewer system have also been preserved.
