The Monastery of Saint Mina is a Coptic Orthodox monastery in the Western Desert of Egypt near Alexandria .

The present modern monastery was rebuilt in 1959 near the ruins of the ancient Coptic monastery of Abu Mena , one of the most important Christian pilgrimage sites in Egypt. The original monastery was destroyed by the Arabs during the Muslim conquest of what was once Christian Coptic-speaking Egypt in the mid-7th century .

Today's monastery is the second most important Christian pilgrimage site in Egypt and is also known as the " Lourdes of the East". It is visited by hundreds of thousands of Coptic pilgrims every year.
