The St. Johannes monastery in Nemore (German: St. Johannes im Hain; French: St. Jean au Bois) is a former Cistercian abbey in the Middle East.
history
The monastery was founded in 1169 as a subsidiary of the Monastery of Balamand (Belmont in Lebanon ) and thus belonged to the filiation of the primary abbey of Morimond and existed until 1290.
Buildings and plant
After Pringle, the smaller of the visiting churches in En Kerem can be assigned to the monastery . The larger of the visiting or visitation churches was later looked after by Armenian monks. The smaller visiting church was built between 1938 and 1946 using the preserved medieval ruins of the upper and lower churches. In the apse of the upper church, the lower medieval parts have been left visible.
