Denys Pringle

Denys Pringle (born September 20, 1951 ) is a British archaeologist .

Denys Pringle studied from 1970 to 1973 at the University of Southampton (BA) and then at Keble College of Oxford University , where he received his doctorate in 1978 with a dissertation on "Sixth-century Byzantine Fortifications in Africa". From 1979 to 1984 he was Assistant Director of the British School of Archeology in Jerusalem . 1984–1985 he was a Fellow of Harvard University for Byzantine Studies in Dumbarton Oaks , Washington . From 1986 to July 1999, he was Principal Inspector of Ancient Monuments for the Historic Buildings and Monuments Directorate of Scotland. Since 1999 he has been a professor at Cardiff University .

Pringles was best known for his numerous publications on the buildings of the Crusaders in the Middle East .
