The Surb- Khach Monastery ( Armenian Սուրբ Խաչ վանք 'Monastery of the Holy Cross' , Ukrainian Сурб-Хач ) is a medieval Armenian monastery founded in 1358 on the Crimean peninsula in Ukraine , near the city of Staryj Krym .

The Surb Chatsch Monastery was a spiritual center for the Armenian Christians and a place of pilgrimage for many centuries. It probably borrows its name from the Armenian Cathedral of the Holy Cross on the island of Aghtamar in Lake Van in what is now eastern Turkey .

In 2009, the Ukrainian National Bank issued commemorative coins in honor of the Armenian monastery of Surb-Chatsch. There are also numerous ancient khachkars in the monastery .
