The monastery Thalbach formerly Abbey Bregenz is a former convent of Dominican nuns (in front of the Franciscan Sisters ) in the city of Bregenz in Vorarlberg , which in 1983 clerics Family "The Work" was passed. It is a listed building .

According to the Charter fundatorum monasterii nostri Prigantini , the Kluse am Thalbach was founded in 1436.

history

The monastery church of St. Antonius has had a larger than life Madonna and Child from the 14th century as a gift from the Mehrerau monastery since 1592 . The builder Giovanni Prato renovated the monastery church from 1609 to 1610. The entire complex was rebuilt from 1674 to 1677 by Michael Kuen and Michael Thumb into an early baroque example of a symmetrical, rectangular monastery complex ( Escorial ). The Franciscan convent was abolished in 1782 by Emperor Joseph II and acquired by Dominicans in 1796 and belonged to the Austrian Union of Dominicans . It has been in the possession of the “Das Werk” spiritual family since 1983.
