Val-St-Georges Monastery is a former Cistercian monastery in Belgium .
location
The monastery was located in Salzinnes near Namur in the province of Namur , probably south of the Sambre (Rue de l'Abbaye / Avenue du Val St-Georges).
history
The monastery was founded by Philippe le Noble, Count of Namur, in 1202 or 1203, restored at the end of the 16th and 17th centuries, and abolished during the French Revolution in 1796. The Grand Séminaire de Namur (seminary) was relocated to the site, but later returned to its original building in the city of Namur. In 1997 the buildings were acquired by the Province of Namur. The monastery had the granges Morival in Suarlée, Longchamps, Rion in Leuze, Harcée in Noville-les-Bois, Nile, Ville-en-Hesbaye, Sart in Saint-Denis and Vieille Maison-in Sombreffe.
