The Monastery of St. Elizabeth in Minsk ( Belarusian Свято-Елисаветинский монастырь Swjato-Elisabetinskij monastyr ) is an Orthodox convent under the jurisdiction of the Minsk eparchy and Slutsk of the Belarusian Orthodox Church . It is named after Elisabeth von Hessen-Darmstadt (1864–1918) , after her marriage to Grand Duchess Jelisaweta Fjodorovna. She is venerated as a saint and martyr in the Orthodox Church.

The sisterhood has existed since 1994. It developed from an initiative of parishioners of the Peter and Paul Cathedral, who took part in the renovation work after it was reopened. The sisters then turned to diaconal tasks. They worked in hospitals and children's homes.

In 1999, Metropolitan Filaret of Minsk and Slutsk founded the Elizabeth Monastery. It has been under the spiritual direction of Archpriest Andrej Lemeschonok ever since. The Martha Maria Monastery in Moscow, founded by Grand Duchess Elisabeth for women in 1908, and the stauropegial monastery of St. John in Tolleshunt Knights ( Maldon , Essex, Great Britain) founded in 1959 by Archimandrite Sophroni Sakharov , are role models for the inner and outer life of the Elizabeth Monastery in Minsk.

The monastery is located on the site of a former mental hospital. The sisters have set up an extensive social service that looks after the mentally ill, mentally and physically handicapped orphans and alcohol-dependent homeless people. In order to generate the funds for their diaconal work, the sisters produce devotional objects and monastery products.

A support association was founded in Berlin in 2017.

During the Covid-19 pandemic , the Easter service was celebrated with more than a thousand believers in 2020, 100 out of one hundred and thirty nuns are said to have Covid-19 .
