Long people's club

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Club Long People Germany eV (KLM) is an association that sees itself as a lobby for people with an above-average body length .

history

It was founded on April 17, 1953 in Munich by four men, initially as a club of long men , then renamed after the first accession of a female member in August of the same year to club of long men in Munich , renamed again in October 1953 after letters and additions from other cities final name. The prerequisite for joining is a height of 1.80 m for women and 1.90 m for men. In the early days, one of the main goals was to get tax breaks for people of the size mentioned. However, this attempt was unsuccessful.

The procurement of garments from series production was and is another important task of the association. The manufacturers were made aware of the special needs through press work . The KLM then developed into a social association with, according to its own information, around 3,500 members (as of 2005), which is represented in 23 districts in all major cities in Germany. These districts offer a program of events tailored to the members with regular regional, national and international meetings. Besides Germany, there are clubs in Austria, Denmark, the Netherlands, France, Finland, Great Britain, Norway, Switzerland and in Spain (Barcelona), the USA (Chicago) and Canada.

Longinus Club in Austria

Through an article in a magazine, one of the founding members of the Longinus Club became aware of the association "Long People's Club" in Germany. On February 23, 1956, the "Neuer Kurier" published a detailed article about tall people with the aim of founding their own club in Vienna, and on April 26, 1956 the founding meeting for the LONGINUS-CLUB Vienna took place in Café Schottenring. Since then there have been national and international events with up to 850 participants (Europatreffen 1992).
