The Klutina Glacier is a glacier in the US state of Alaska on the northern flank of the Chugach Mountains .
geography
The 7.5 km long valley glacier has its nutrient area at an altitude of 1600 m in the Chugach Mountains 28 km north-northeast of Valdez . The glacier, which is 700 m wide on average, flows in an east-northeast direction. Below the glacier tongue is a 1.6 km long lake at the edge of the glacier at an altitude of about 800 m . This is drained to the north via the Klutina River .
Glacier development
The glacier is in retreat. In the last few decades the lower end of the glacier has moved 800 m up the valley. The lake at the edge of the glacier grew accordingly.
