Billet (steel)

Billet is the name for a semi-finished product made of steel , with a square or round cross-section , the side lengths or diameters of which are manufactured from 50 to 130 mm. The billet is roughly processed and has round edges. Its length is usually between a few meters and 18 m. They have an almost constant cross-section over their entire length.

Manufacturing

Billets are manufactured using the continuous casting process and further processed in the rolling mill . They can be rolled immediately afterwards, while they are still warm, or after transport and storage. Then of course with more complex pre-treatment (heating).

classification

Along with slabs, billets are semi-finished products of continuous steel casting . If you look at all cast semi-finished products, then there are also bars .
