Snack foods

Snacks are savory, spicy and nutty products; This also includes dried fruits, salty, cheese and lye biscuits. The Federal Association of the German Confectionery Industry (BDSI) has seven specialist divisions, where the industrial manufacturers of salty snacks - in the specialist division snack items - are united .

The BDSI's range of snacks is divided into four segments:

In 2012, a product guideline for the minimization of trans fatty acids in snack items was issued as part of the overall initiative to minimize trans fatty acids in food. This guideline covers the product groups potato chips, stacked chips and extruder products and states that no partially hydrogenated oils and fats are used in the manufacture of these products.

Snacks are also offered for sale in snack machines .
