description

The sculpture in Gliwice is a replica of the famous sculpture by Theodor Kalide and is integrated into a fountain as a fountain figure. The figure was made of bronze and weighs 80 kilograms. It is located in the Dessau green area at Jana Pawła II street in downtown Gliwice, not far from the Peter and Paul Church .

It depicts a boy with a swan who holds the swan's neck with one hand and protects himself from the sun with his left hand.

history

The first figure was on loan that had to be returned in 2005. Then a new copy was made, which was placed in the green area from 2006. During the night of May 26th to 27th, 2010, the base of the sculpture was knocked over and part of the sculpture was damaged and stolen. The remaining part was then stored. The stolen part was the boy figure, which the robbers then sawed into 18 pieces. Because of the severe damage, a new copy had to be made. On October 4, 2010 the new copy was installed.
