Crackling rattles
Dry crackling rattle , also known as sclerophonia or sclerosiphonia , belongs to the group of pulmonary background noises . It is a (end-inspiratory) noise phenomenon ("crackling of unfolding") that occurs at the end of inhalation and occurs primarily in the lower sections of the lungs and can indicate pulmonary fibrosis .
Pathological breathing sounds are not to be confused with pulmonary background noises.
