German photo book award

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The German Photo Book Prize is a competition in which a jury selects the best photo books in German-speaking countries. The competition was launched in 1975 as the Kodak Photo Book Prize in cooperation with the Börsenverein des Deutschen Buchhandels and the Stuttgart State Trade Office and took place annually under this name until 2003. Since 2003 and after the withdrawal of Kodak AG as sponsor and namesake, the award has been continued under the name “German Photo Book Award”.

Until 2016 the organizer was the Landesverband Baden-Württemberg e. V. of the German Book Trade Association . In March 2016 it was announced that the award of the prize would be suspended until further notice. After a one-year break, there is a new organizer: the Stuttgart Media University . In organizing the competition, the university is supported by a top-class and independent jury.

Special achievements by authors, photographers and editors in the photo book area are honored. In addition to publishers , the competition is also open to photographers and photo designers . Eligible are photo books from publishers in German-speaking countries (including Switzerland, Austria, South Tyrol) that were first published within a certain period of time and have never taken part in the “German Photo Book Prize”. The participating books must be deliverable and available in stores.

As of the 2017 competition, companies, own publishers and students are invited to take part. The categories “Corporate Books”, “Self Publishing” and “Student Projects” were created for this purpose.
