The Otto Hahn Gymnasium (OHG), named after the chemist Otto Hahn , is located in Nagold in the northern Black Forest, around 50 km southwest of Stuttgart. With 1,400 students, the OHG is one of the largest grammar schools in Baden-Württemberg .

School history

The Otto Hahn Gymnasium in Nagold was inaugurated on September 8, 1973. The catchment area of the OHG includes around 30 cities and communities. The number of pupils has risen steadily since the school was founded and is currently around 1400 pupils. As a model school, the school takes part in the youth guide program of the state of Baden-Württemberg, which is carried out by the Baden-Württemberg Youth Foundation and in which volunteers from clubs, associations and the church support the teachers through extracurricular events for education and supervision.

School building and equipment

The OHG-Nagold consists of two school buildings, which can be reached via a shared school yard (independent of road traffic) and which are in the immediate vicinity of the city center of Nagold. The learners are taught in 40 classrooms and 17 specialist rooms as well as 2 computer rooms, a sports hall and the municipal stadium. In the school's own canteen , lunch is offered to all students and teachers every day. The school is heated with a wood chip heating system.

Mission statement of the OHG

In its mission statement, the OHG has chosen a principle from Hartmut von Hentig as the motto: “Strengthen people, clarify things” . In order to live up to this motto in everyday school life, knowledge and personality development should be promoted. The pupils should acquire technical knowledge and skills at an appropriately high level. In doing so, they are instructed and encouraged not only to develop social commitment themselves, but also to appreciate and support it in their classmates. The design of this process includes appropriate interaction with each other and the further development of the community of students, staff and parents regularly in school work and in conversation.

Learning profiles at the OHG

With the beginning of the 8th grade, each student at the OHG chooses a learning focus. Three profiles are available for this:

Its special feature is that, in addition to increased music lessons, it is also intended to promote the acquisition of social skills and the willingness to take on responsibility in and for a group. There is also close cooperation with the Nagold City Music School. The expression of this cooperation is the joint chamber orchestra under the direction of the music school director and town music director Florian Hummel.

Music train

In grades 5 to 7, the "extended music lessons" are offered, which among other things prepare for the music profile beginning in grade 8. Students of this musical train receive more music lessons than the other classes. In class 5, the additional lessons primarily consist of the class orchestra. In grade 6, a public performance (concert, musical, ...) is prepared and carried out. In grade 7, the class deals intensively with a piece of music theater including a visit to a performance (e.g. in the Stuttgart State Opera ), workshops, back-stage tours, etc.

For grades 5 and 6, a wind class is also offered, in which the children have the opportunity to learn a new wind instrument.

Musical working groups

The following musical working groups are offered at the Otto Hahn Gymnasium :

  • Choirs
5-piece choir: Choir of the fifth grade
6-piece choir: choir of the sixth grade

Promotion of talents at the OHG

Not only the offer of three profiles promotes talents at the OHG. Working groups , cooperation with the youth research center and participation in numerous competitions in the fields of natural sciences such as schoolchildren experiment (2nd place in the evaluation of the state of Baden-Württemberg 2012) and youth research , mathematics, foreign languages, humanities ( youth debated ) as well as in sports and Music ( Jugend musiziert , 2nd place in the state ranking of Baden-Württemberg 2007) contribute to this. There are several school choirs.

An upper level theater group puts on a play every year. In cooperation with the German Alpine Association Section Tübingen, Nagold District Group, a climbing group is being organized where the pupils are supposed to take the climbing certificates leading and trailing.
