Coal basket

The coal basket , filled but not heaped, was a Swiss measure of volume for the charcoal . The coal basket was only available in the cantons of Zurich and Zug and the measure could be divided into four quarters.

  • 1 coal basket (old) = 13.75 Swiss cubic feet = 0.376392 cubic meters
  • 1 coal malt = 2 coal baskets = 27.5 cubic feet = 0.752784 cubic meters
  • 1 coal basket (new) = 12 Swiss cubic feet = 9.45233 Parisian cubic feet = 324 liters
  • 1 old basket = 1.161705 new basket
  • 1 new basket = 0.860804 old basket
