Kollóttadyngja is a shield volcano 1177 m high in the northeast of Iceland .
Surname
The name means bare shield volcano in German .
location
The volcano is located in the Ódáðahraun lava field in the uninhabited highlands of Iceland north of the large glacier shield Vatnajökull and not far from Askja , to whose volcanic system it belongs, and Herðubreið .
description
The volcano has a considerable diameter of 6-7 km, which is typical of shield volcanoes. On the summit there is a small caldera with a diameter of 800 m at 20-39 m depth and a central crater 150 m in diameter at 60-70 m depth.
The shield volcano belongs to the Askja fissure system .
