Colorist (music)

The colorists were a group of German organ - composers of the 16th century , their way of composing by " coloristic " play around the Cantus firmus or later of chord progressions, so ornaments with small notes distinguished.

The colorists include a. Sebastian Virdung , Arnolt Schlick , Elias Nikolaus Ammerbach , Paul Hofhaimer , Bernhard Schmid sen. , Bernhard Schmid jun. , Jacob Paix , Conrad Paumann and Johann Woltz .
