Core technology competence network

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Competence Network for Nuclear Technology has existed since 2000 for the division of labor between research institutions and universities in reactor safety and repository research.

Permanent members of the association include the Competence Center East for Nuclear Technology and the like. a. with the Helmholtz Center Dresden-Rossendorf , the Jülich Research Center , the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology , the Federal Institute for Geosciences and Raw Materials and the Society for Plant and Reactor Safety with their respective partner universities and the Materials Testing Institute of the University of Stuttgart . The association's spokesman has been the nuclear researcher Joachim Knebel from the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology since 2014 .

History of origin

An evaluation commission appointed by the Federal Ministry of Economics and Technology in 1999 recommended in its final report on nuclear safety and repository research in Germany from January 2000 the establishment of an industry-independent association in order to enable better reactor safety and repository research. The core technology competence network met for the first time in March 2000. The first spokesman for the group from 2000 to 2013 was the nuclear engineer Peter Fritz from the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology.

Other goals

As further goals in addition to reactor safety and repository research, the association formulates on its website increased cooperation with universities and industry and cooperative support for international initiatives to maintain competence in nuclear energy, the presentation of trends in job development and training capacities in the nuclear field and participation in the further development of international nuclear safety standards.
