The Kong Empire (better known as the Wattara Empire or more correctly Ouattara Empire ; Ajami script : کونگ Kung ) was a West African - officially Muslim - state that was founded in 1710. The form of government in the Kong Empire was a monarchy.

The capital of the empire was the city of Kong . The center of the state was in the northeast of today's Republic of Ivory Coast , and the Kong Empire also took large parts of Burkina Faso .

In 1895 the empire was taken by French colonial troops, the hitherto independent state was smashed and the area was incorporated into the French colonial territory of French West Africa and Upper Volta . The local population now had to submit to French rule. This ended the 175-year history of the African country.
