The Parti Congolais du Travail ( PCT abbreviation , in German  Congolese Labor Party ) is a political party in the Central African Republic of the Congo . For decades it was the only permitted party, i.e. the unity party in the People's Republic of the Congo , which existed until 1991 as the predecessor of today's Republic of the Congo.

The party had around 70,000 members in 1990; by 2005 it had around 250,000 members. The party's youth organization was the PCT's youth organization, the Union de la jeunesse socialiste congolaise (UJSC).

The Congolese Labor Party was founded as a true Congolese political party in 1969 by Marien Ngouabi and is now still in power in the Republic of the Congo. The party program was of Marxist-Leninist origin and demanded obedience to the Eastern bloc, but took a less radical political line after the dissolution of the USSR . The party has been campaigning for the multi-party system since the 1990s and has a political program that moves in the left-wing area of the middle political spectrum.

Denis Sassou-Nguesso , a candidate for the PCT and the United Democratic Forces ( French Forces démocratiques unifiés , FDU) won the presidential elections on March 10, 2002 with 89.4% of the vote. The party was also assigned 53 of the 153 seats in the now democratically elected National Assembly (lower house of the Congolese parliament) in the parliamentary elections on May 16 and June 20, 2002.
