Kongregate

Kongregate is a browser game website operated by Gamestop . It offers gamers and independent developers a platform to offer their games to an audience. It is characterized by extensive chat functionality, which players and developers can use to communicate.

history

The website goes back to the game developer Jim Greer and his sister Emily. On October 1, 2006 they activated the website for test purposes and invited players and developers to participate in the platform. The test phase ended at the end of December and the site was released to the public. Kongregate then received support from a number of investors, such as Reid Hoffman , co-founder of LinkedIn and Joe Kraus, co-founder of JotSpot . On March 22nd 2007 the beta phase of the site began. On July 23, 2010 Kongregate was taken over by the video game distributor Gamestop. In February 2013, Gamestop invested US $ 10 million in supporting developers for mobile platforms such as Android and iOS .
