history

Community House in Warsaw

The congregation was founded in 1920 by St. Maria Ursula Ledóchowska in Pniewy near Poznan . The community initially consisted of 40 Ursulines who had previously worked in Saint Petersburg and had to leave Russia in the turmoil of war because of the hostile attitude of the Russian government towards the Poles. On June 7, 1920 Maria Ursula Ledóchowska received from Pope Benedict XV. permission to found the congregation.

The sisters devote themselves primarily to Christian education and poor relief. The congregation currently has more than 800 sisters in fourteen countries.
