Crown of the Congress Oak

The Congress Oak (Polish: Dąb Kongresowy) is one of the most beautiful oaks in the Białowieża National Park , with a very regular and beautiful trunk embedded in the ground.

The oak is located in sector 475 of the national park, just west of the locality of Białowieża .
The trunk circumference is 630 cm at a height of 130 cm. The tree , which reaches a height of 32 m, shows no clear signs of death. Since the mid-1960s, the tree's circumference has increased by 45 cm. The oak grows near a shelter with a fireplace, which is almost exactly in the geographical center of the Białowieża National Park. It has been a meeting place for a long time, and its name comes from this function. A few smaller oaks grow in the vicinity, probably descendants of the Congress oak.
